Gartner podał statystyki dotyczące sprzedaży telefonów komórkowych w III kw. 2012 r. Sprzedaż telefonów spadła nieznacznie w porównaniu rok do roku o 3% do 428 mln sztuk. Sprzedaż smartfonów poszybowała w górę aż o 46.9% do 169.2 mln sztuk. Smartfony stanowią już 39.6% całej sprzedaży telefonów.
